The National Motor Museum |
|
|
The National Motor Museum's reputation as the centre for Australian motoring history continues to grow - a long way from
its beginnings as a small private motorcycle museum in a disused flourmill in 1965. Its acquisition by the South Australian Government in 1976, and subsequent incorporation into the newly formed
History Trust of South Australia in 1982, laid the foundation for the development of a museum of international standing and a major South Australian tourism attraction. The Museum today
displays over three hundred vehicles in three pavilions. It aims to present the history of the motor vehicle in Australia and the ways in which the motor vehicle has changed Australian society.

Hugh Hamilton's cellar door is widely regarded by people in the region for having the most stunning views in
McLaren Vale. Hugh Hamilton is the 5th generation of a large wine dynasty and is regarded as the black sheep of the family. So when it comes to tasting his wines, visitors can expect to enjoy the
difference. The black sheep experience is extraordinary. Hugh is a master of a most reprobate range of varieties from the classics to the more eclectic - 'The Oddball' Saperavi, 'The Scoundrel'
Tempranillo and 'The Loose Cannon' Viognier - this is no ordinary flock! |

Hardys Tintara Cellar Door |
|
|
McLaren Vale is home to two of Australia's great heritage wine brands, Hardys and Tintara, founded by English immigrant
Thomas Hardy in 1853. Tintara has been one of the well known Australian wine names for over 140 years, its name derived from the Aboriginal word "Tinyinlara" in reference to the Orion
constellation and means "a number of young men hunting emus and kangaroos in the sky". The disused McLaren Vale flour mill was converted by Thomas into a winery, the true beginning of
McLaren Vale as a wine region. Both the Hardys and the Tintara range of wines are still made in the historic Tintara Cellars in McLaren Vale using many of the same techniques and equipment, such
as open fermentation and basket presses, that would have been used by Thomas Hardy in his day. |
