Itinerary
We leave Princes
Wharf and head east along the scenic Tamaki Drive with its Pohutukawa's and harbour views, especially of Rangitoto Island and the North Shore. On a fine day the Waitemata Harbour (the Maori
translation for sparkling water) lives up to it's name.
The eastern most suburb on Tamaki Drive is the attractive beach village of St. Heliers, one of Auckland's wealthier suburbs.
Here, we head inland and back along the eastern suburban ridge towards the city, taking in the various suburbs and the Orakei Basin, a recreational lake.
Cruising from Remuera into
Parnell, we head through the Auckland Domain, a volcanic crater now transformed into a city park and reserve. Here, one can see the stately War Memorial Museum, the location of our annual
commemoration of the soldiers who gave their lives in battle. This is one of our most beautiful parks and is very popular with the locals.
Our last stop is Mt Eden, the city's
highest and oldest natural viewpoint, which provides the best panorama apart from the Sky Tower. Most of the region can be seen from here and its a popular spot with locals and tourists
alike. From here it is a straightforward run to the airport. |
