Mount Classics are members of the Bay of Plenty Sustainable Tourism Charter. This is an initiative to promote 'best
practice' in the tourism sector in our region. This not only covers environmental issues but also considers the economic viability of the tourism industry, our community and our part in it.Vision and Mission Statement Mount Classics values the natural environment and local communities in the Bay of Plenty. Our aim is to create positive changes within our
company concerning the impact we make on the environment, society and economy and culture, ensuring we do our part in helping sustain tourism and the region in which we work. To achieve our mission
statement, we are identifying areas within the company where improvements can be made either immediately or as ongoing processes. Currently we have the following practices in place:
- We reduce the amount of waste going to landfill by separating it for recycling.
- We reduce waste and cost by reusing printed paper and use double sided printing where possible.
- We use biodegradable or nontoxic cleaning products within the company building, and are moving toward similar products for vehicle cleaning.
- We contribute the interest we earn from Clients deposits annually, to The Waipuna Hospice, our chosen community organisation of preference.
- We turn off lights when they are not in use and have fitted motion detectors lights where possible to assist energy efficiency.
- We turn off taps when we are not directly using them, and use controllable hose fittings for cleaning vehicles to reduce water use.
- We encourage staff to participate in educational opportunities relevant to our tourism operation when these arise.
As new initiatives are identified and undertaken these will be added to this section of the web site.
