Itinerary
Sydney by
night is one of the most exciting and safe cities in the world. Experience the history of the Rocks and the lights of Sydney Harbour, including the Sydney Opera House. Drive over the
Sydney Harbour Bridge passing Government House and Admirality House before visiting the trendy cafes of Kirribilli. Travel via the Garden Island Naval Base and perhaps enjoy a light supper
at the world famous Harry's Cafe de Wheels.
The phrase 'Café de Wheels' came about as the city council of the day insisted that mobile food caravans move a minimum of 12 inches a day.
Harry dutifully obeyed and thus the name was expanded to Harry's Café de Wheels. Before the councils ruling, the caravan was known simply as 'Harry's.' When its wheels went missing one night,
local wags coined the nickname 'Café de Axle.'
In December 2004, Harry's was classified by the National Trust of Australia (NSW) and was included on its Register as a 'quintessential
Sydney icon.'
The tour then takes you through Sydney's reknowned Kings Cross area. In recent years, this area has started to evolve into a richly vibrant part of the city. Small,
trendy cafes have sprung up on the fringes of the Cross that are attracting a more discerning type of visitor. At night, the bright lights come on and the night action hots up.
Finally,
your evening concludes with a drive through Chinatown and the tourist mecca of Darling Harbour one of Sydney's Buzz places. A former dockside area, the small harbour has been transformed
into a major tourist site. |
