Rotorua, New Zealand's premier tourist destination, is just 1 hour from Tauranga. Here you can see both the Maori culture and the amazing geothermal activity, or travel a little further to the Waitomo Glow Worm caves, maybe calling in at Hobbiton on the way for those Lord of the Rings fans.

Waitomo Glow Worm Caves - Roselands Farm BBQ - Kiwi Culture Show
If you want to see more of the lush New Zealand landscape, then this full day tour, taking across the centre of the North Island to Waitomo will be ideal. Leaving Tauranga we first cross the Kaimai ranges to the farming region of the Waikato.  Arriving Waitomo, we join a guided tour of the Glow Worm Caves, then to Roselands Farm for a typical Kiwi BBQ lunch. Then its to Woodlyn Park for the famous Billy Black Kiwi Culture Show. May also have time to watch the Rabbit Shearing before leaving for the journey back to Tauranga.

LOTR Hobbiton movie set - Farm show - Lunch - Te Puia & Rotorua
A new tour this season, combines the famous Lord of the Rings movie set location at Hobbiton, located on a working Sheep Farm along with Rotorua. The Hobbiton private tour lets us see how this hidden valley was transformed and used in all of the LOTR films. See farm livestock in a small demonstration, before taking lunch at the Shires Rest cafe overlooking rolling hills. Bay of Plenty Harbour Sailing
Explore the picturesque Tauranga's harbour from onboard Passing Time, a purpose built sailing yacht. Cruise past the enormous container ships, sail amongst the anchored boats off Pilot Bay. Then head across the famous main channel, if we are lucky a ship will be entering or leaving the port, adding to the excitement. Then past beautiful Matakana Island into the inner parts of the harbour then back to the sanctuary of the Marina. Duration 3 hours dependent on wind strength.
