This is your opportunity to visit a working sheep farm, have a go at shearing a sheep, observe the sheep dogs in their element, and top off this entertaining day with a thrilling jet boat ride on the stunning Waimakariri River. See Christchurch City sights as you traverse the South Islands largest city, to head out into the stunning Canterbury countryside, with the majestic backdrop of the Southern Alps in the distance. This short half day program allows you plenty of time to further explore Christchurch at your own pace.

Itinerary

After collection from the Lyttleton i-SITE, we will take you through Christchurch City to one of three working sheep farms, set in the tranquil and picturesque locations of surrounding Christchurch. Once at the farm, you can enjoy the experience of watching the sheep dogs work, an incredible sight with years of training involved. The sheep will be rounded up and penned in for you to touch, examine and photograph.

After the sheep show there is a shearing demonstration, and if you wish you can give shearing a try! Following that, after working up an appetite, morning or afternoon tea will be served - well deserved after all that hard work! On departing there is time to visit the factory shop of one of our leading manufacturers of woolen garments by your request.

Traveling back to Christchurch we will meet up with the Waimakariri River, the largest river in the region. This is where you meet your jet boat ride - near 40 minutes of exhilaration, also providing another chance to see the raw beauty of New Zealand.

We return to Christchurch and drop you either at the i-SITE or to the shipside, depending on your preference.

Please note: Jet boat ride can be optional if not suitable.
